Chimney Relining, Repair & Cleaning

Your chimney probably appears to be in fine condition on the outside. But that can be the problem. Many chimneys that look fine on the outside are seriously deteriorated on the inside. The acidic nature of the by-products from the combustion process can deteriorate liners from the inside out. This can lead to a serious fire hazard, a dangerous flue blockage or even result in carbon monoxide poisoning.

Whether gas, oil or wood is used to heat your home, every chimney must have an approved liner that is in good condition. Fortunately, problems of a deteriorating chimney flue can be corrected without comletely tearing down and rebuilding your chimney.

If natural or liquid propane gas is used to heat your home, an aluminum chimney liner might be your best choice. These liners can be made of rigid or flexible materials, depending on details of the application and the configuration of the chimney. Properly sized, more than one appliance, a furnace and a hot water heater for example, can be vented into the same pipe. Aluminum is used only to vent gas appliances.

If fuel oil or wood is used to heat your home, a liner made of stainless steel with special alloys has been developed to resist corrosive acids. Properly sized, more than one oil appliance can be common vented. Common venting with wood appliances is not permitted.

In our opinion, a cast-in-place liner such as Ahrens Chimney Technique is the best method for relining and restoring structural integrity to a masonry chimney, regardless of the fuel that is being burned.

All masonry chimneys, regardless of age, could have defects that are not visible. Potentially dangerous situations such as cracked or broken flue tiles, improper clearances to combustibles, or many other problems could go undetected by the untrained eye. If your chimney is not lined, or if you're noticing missing or crumbled mortar, loose brick, staining, cracks or if you're having recurring headaches during the heating season, call us today

Chimney Specialists Inc. is an authorized dealer for the Ahrens Chimney Technique, a truly unique system for lining or relining masonry chimneys. The system is listed for all fuels: gas, oil, wood and coal.

In new or old chimneys the Ahrens system will add structural strength and improve efficiency regardless of what fuel is being utilized. The Ahrens liner is completed in one continuous pour. There are no seams or joints. The liner offers an interlocking bond to existing masonry by filling any deteriorated mortar joints, cracks or crevices. The Ahrens mix provides an insulated flue to keep the inside temperatures higher, while reducing heat transfer to the outside of the chimney. Condensation and creosote deposits are significantly reduced because of these higher temperatures.

Chimney Specialists Inc. has been recognized six times as the "Outstanding Chimney Restoration Company" in the United States at the National Ahrens Convention. We also held the U.S. record for Ahrens' largest diameter cast-in-place industrial liner for 5 years, a 32" diameter pour! The company has received ten "Outstanding Customer Service and Satisfaction" awards.

Chimney Specialists Inc. was one of only 5 contractors in the State of Wisconsin invited to bid on restoring five historic fireplaces in the Governor's Mansion in Madison.
